Before

Jana's makeover was so exciting and fun! I wanted to try something drastic with her hair and I continued with the challenge. Her core style is sporty and her universal style is a mix of alluring, dramatic, and romantic so i decided to cover all of it. With her hair, i chose iced blond with straight bangs to emphasize her alluring and romantic side. For the outfits, I used clothe she already had since we spent the money on her hair and makeup. I also gave her tips of how to do her makeup. I'll say she has been my BEST SUCCESSFUL MAKEOVER!! :)

With Damilare it was little challenging because the budget was very little. However whenever you know how to chose the right stores to shop, you can do a miracle. I really enjoyed changing his hair because we got to do some fun designs on it. I also challenged him to wear some ears pears; at first he was nervous but he was courageous enough to do it, and he end up loving it!

Since his core style was sporty, i kept him casual, but adding some of his winter colors made him look even better.

What's Your "Season"?

Did you know that depending on your skin color, hair color, eye color, you have a "season" that best suits you? What do i mean exactly when i say "season"...? It's not if you like Fall better than Summer; The "season" represents the best COLORS for you.

Stylists often use this technique to dress their clients because these colors are usually the best that suits the person. Sometimes we tend to wear the colors we like; but what if actually those colors are the one's you should not wear because is totally opposite of what is best for you?

Of course we can't always be wearing the same colors; but specially for occasions such as a party, prom night, weddings, etc. We want to look the same on those days right? Plus we want to look good on the pictures too! Well this "season" techniques are often used for Photo shoots, TV shows etc. There fore it works! and it's true.

We can be wearing colors we like, but we should be aware of what colors are best for us as well.

So are you ready to know what "season" you are?

SUMMER

Hair: Ash Blond, Light as Brown

Skin: Pink

Eyes: Blue or Green

Before

Naeila's makeover was very fun because she said she wanted to have a total new look!

Her style personality was traditional, romantic, and creative. She was surprised to find out that she had a romantic side on her personality. Her creative side it's applied with the colors and designs of the blouse and vest. For her romantic side, the blouse has some flower designs, which reflects the romantic side as well. Traditional side will be the part where the outfit is not too over the top but still unique.

With her hair, since she wanted to keep the length of her hair, i decided to create a "V" shape on the back and not cut too much length. The fun thing about this hair cut is that, when you look from the front it looks medium short, but on the back is really long.

Since her season is Fall i focused on "earthy colors" for her outfit.

She does not really like to put makeup on, so i did a super natural makeup.

Naiela says: "I thought the makeover was really fun and very helpful because Melissa knew what she was doing and knew how to manage the money very well."

How to make the simple not so simple

Do you have days when you feel like you really do not have time to think so much for an outfit, and you end up wearing the same things over and over again?...denim and a T-shirt, if is cold some boots, if is hot some flip flops or flats. What can you do to make it look more fashionable? or "unique".

1. Add another shirt to the t-shirt you already have something with another color.

2. add some fun accessories!

What's the problem here? NO COLOR!

1. Do not limit yourself! just because the top is white, you don't have to just give up; make it look like another dress!! *wearing another TOP, on TOP of the other TOP! (*tip)

2. add a belt. place it on the high waist.

You are going to a party, but all you have is...

A simple summer dress and some simple heels

It's a party! do not be scare of "SHINE"!!!

1.Add some best or jacket that has some shine to it!

*Tips try to add colors to your outfit if you just have one or two (BLACK,WHITE,GRAY, are not Colors so it does not count. )

* Guys if is too hot to wear a sweater or a vest, combine two t-shirts of different colors together.

Before

Emery's makeover was one of my very first ones! She wanted to keep her hair long but change the hair style. What i decided to do with her hair was to make some volume on the top and add bangs; since she has a oblong/square face shape, the point was to make her face look smaller and rounder. Whenever you chose a hair style try to chose the opposite of your face shape. After taking the "Personality Style Test" she came up as Sporty/ Creative. I kept it simple and comfortable but since she said she wanted to look a bit older than her age, i challenged her to wear some heels (something that it was new for her). The reason of the orange shirt is because her season is "Fall". When your season is Fall, warm colors goes best with you. (such us; Reds, Oranges, Browns, Chocolates, etc..). The "Personality Style Test" is something stylist use to come up with the best new look for the client. The makeovers are not just based on what i think is cute or not, but what is best for the "client" through a lot of consulting before the makeover.

Seems like a lot happen from me starting at a Japanese school,

learning the language and the culture,

trying to adapt to it,

and to now be living in the United states

Again another language another culture to learn

Every eight years my life seems to be changing pretty drastically

Being a Colombian girl in a small town, to moving to Japan, then now knowing three languages,

attending the University of my dreams and walking towards the journey of becoming a Fashion Stylist; who in the world knew that i was going to be "here" 22 years later...

Then God said: Take the delight in the Lord, and he (I) will give you your heart’s desires”. Psalm 37:4

Every person has their own dreams and desires on their hearts. Dreams and desires can never be over; when we have it, we create goals and purpose, and in life we all have a purpose.

I knew I've always liked Fashion, but I never thought that could be part of my career. However, as long as I remember I’ve always like to play with outfits and be “unique”. I decided to search more about career positions in the Fashion Industry. That is when I find the title; “Image Consultant(Fashion Stylist)”. Something in me stopped and the more I read about this title the more I see myself doing it with passion and love. That was the moment when I knew that my dreams and desires of making people look beautiful inside out was my passion. In fact I remember always doing makeovers to my friends since I was very young. Don’t ever under estimate your dreams and desires.

My definition of family changed when i was 8 years old

The definition became "Papa" "Mama" "Brother" and "Me"

I did not have a kind of papa, neither "Two Mama's"

But i was happy with my new family

The first time i had my own room

Before, I was sleeping with my mom every time

The first time i could not sleep, well because i heard a baby crying every 2 hours (my brother 13 years ago)

Before, I could not sleep because my "Mamita" was always snoring (so maybe it was not the first time i could not sleep)

The first time i called my "Papa", "Papa" and it was really my "Papa"

Before, it was not my "papa" it was my "Papito"

The first time i could not pronounce my last name

Before, it was shorter

The first time i woke up and all i saw was buildings

Before, i woke up and saw my wall

(my house became from a little house in an poor little town, to a 22 floor apartment in the middle of the city of the one of the most expensive country)

The first time i could not understand what my "Papa" was trying to say

Before, i wished i could not understand what my "Papito" was saying because it was too scary

The first time i did not understand what my "Mama" was telling my "Papa"

Before, i understood everything because my "Mama" only talked in one language called Spanish

The first time i had no idea what Bugs Bunny was saying

Thank God i still understood what Tom and Jerry were doing

The first time i did not want snacks because they did not smell like snacks

everything smelled weird

Before, "Mama" had to make me stop eating lollipops

The first time i went to a restaurant and experienced i could choose ANYTHING from the menu

Before, there were no choices and my chef was my "Mamita"

The first time i shopping

Before, i went shopping for eggs and bread, sometimes coke

The first time i ride on car besides a Taxi

Before, walking or buses, sometimes taxi when "Mama" was in a good mood

The first time i was on air plane

Before, in my dreams sometimes

From a Latin country with full of music and dancing

in the morning we always danced as we cleaned (i still do)

to a Asian country with full of buildings and every one matching their clothe

(every one were wearing suites that is what my brain remembers)

"Mama, entonces esta es mi pieza?"

(so Mama is this my room?)

"Si mija"

(yes dear)

"Y esta es nuestra casa?"

(And this is our house?)

"Si mi amor)

(yes honey)

"Mama, Y cuando voy a ir a la escuela?"

(Mama, when am i going to school?")

"La semana que viene, vas a ir"

(Your going to start going next week)

"Mama, y mis amigos hablan espanol?"

(mama, and my friends speak spanish?)

"No mi amor, tienes que hablar en Japones"

(No dear, you are going to have to talk in Japanese)

(I see...)

(But i don't know Japanese)

(The conversation on a distance phone call from my mother in Miami)

This was how the journey of a completely new life began for me.

For 8 years i did not know what was to have a family.

What is a family?

For me, it meant, "Daddy", "Mommy", "the other little kid called sister or brother"

For 8 years i was living with my second mom "Mamita"which means "Grandma" and my kind of "Daddy" but not really , "Papito" which means "Grandpa".

And once in a while my "real" mom was included

because as along as my brain remembers

"Mama" was always working

My "mamita" was the kindest women i have ever met

She did not force me to eat vegetables or milk

She always gave me my favorite meat and rice with ketchup

Back then I thank her

Now? not really

My "Mama" was the most strict women i have ever met (back then i used to think that way, not anymore, well maybe some times)

She did force me to eat vegetables and milk

She never gave me just meat or rice with ketchup

Back then, i did not thank her

Now? I do

My "Papito" was the scariest man i have ever met (i still think he is the scariest man)

He did not cook, i'm not gonna complain if he gave me meat or vegetables

He loved milk, and he wanted the milk for himself. So i did not have a problem because he did not wanted me to drink his milk.

He talked really loud

that is why my "Mama" talks really loud

Back then, I though everyone needed to talk loud, It is not necessary to be thank full or not.

Now? I know it is not necessary to talk loud, therefore do not thank him for that.

Over all, i was happy. I was poor but happy.

Over all, i was chubby with all the meat and rice and ketchup, but i was happy.

Over all, I had two moms and one daddy that is why i was happy.

"Do you want a father"?

"yes!" (what do you mean?)

"Do you want a little brother"

"yes!" (you mean the other little kid called sister or brother to play with?)

Since this day, the definition of "Family" changed for me.

"Honor your father and mother. Then you will live along, full life like in the land the Lord your God has giving you" Exodus 20:12

It is always interesting and fun to go back to our memories.

Some how we have it in our minds, but not everything gets store in it.

That is why I am so proud that I actually never stopped writing my diary since I was 14 years old.

I am so great full that i actually get to go back to those note books and be able to remember who I was 7 years ago.

Sometimes we forget what was our dreams back then, and do not even realize that those dreams have actually came true.

Or even forget that you were praying for something so badly, but forgot to be thank full because you did not realize those prayers were heard.

I would love my self to remember who I was and who I am now by comparing this "History Books" of mine and share with those who would want to read it once a while.

This new "note book" (I'm referring to this blog)

will be about not only "Today" but "Yesterday (as in all the yesterdays that have passed)

And maybe some things of the "tomorrow".

And if you don't mind I would love to add the words of my great full, lovely Jesus because that is how a sentence should always be completed; with his whispers of blessings.

"Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for i give my self to you". Psalm 143:8
